Weekend Shenanigans: A Trip to LA and a quiet weekend at home

Ryan went to LA to visit his good friend Dan from high school.  Ryan and Dan were living together when Ryan and I started dating.  Then Dan and his girlfriend Stacy moved to LA and Ryan lost his work out buddy and his late night fast food partner.  We really miss Dan and Stacey but I'm glad Ryan FINALLY got to LA and got to spend some time with Dan.  They enjoyed the beach, some volleyball, working out together again, and some drinks along the way too.

I... on the other hand... really enjoyed a weekend of having the house all to myself.  Friday, my family did celebrate my Grandma's 87th birthday!  And Saturday I went to another birthday shindig for a family friend, Deb and I had lunch at my grandparent's new apartment on Sunday.  Other than those few outings, I hunkered down at home- Dupree and I- and got some projects done around the house and enjoyed some "me" time!

Nothing too exciting but it was good!  I will try to post more exciting happenings later this week :)

Weekend Shenanigans: Cabin Trip and the big 2-6!

This last weekend we enjoyed a trip to Ryan's uncle's cabin and spent three days with Ryan's college friends.  It was a lot of sun, lake, drinks, and relaxation!  Saturday was my birthday and I turned 26!  Still in my mid-20s right?!  Ryan spoiled me and bought me/us a new beautiful camera- perfect for Europe and capturing life's moments.  He also let me do a little shopping spree in anticipation of our trip to Europe.  I made some fun purchases from DSW, REI, and Victorias Secret!  This has been a wonderful birthday!

Pinterest Obsessions

If you're friends with me then you know I'm crazy about Pinterest!

My friend Gretchen told me about Pinterest last fall and I've been hooked ever since.  It's really brought out the creative juices in me and I love it!  I always loved scrapbooking but this takes things to a new level.  I'm not very creative on my own but with Pinterest I can do just about anything- even work out and eat healthy- or not and make some ridiculously cute treats!  Pinterest is really my mental break sometimes- just browse and find great ideas of our house, creative workouts, tonight's dinner, inspiration for a one day baby, style outfits, and place I want to fly to someday!

I just thought I'd share A FEW of the things I've pinned from Pinterest and how they really turned out!

If you haven't yet you should definitely check out Pinterest!
Until later...

Weekend Shenanigans: Girls Night, Hubby's Surprise Party, and Birthday Celebrations!

What an absolutely wonderful weekend we had!  Friday started off with some amazing ladies that I have come to absolutely love!  These women I affectionately call the Delta Chi wives.  All of our husbands were in the Delta Chi fraternity in college together.  I of course was not around for the college days- probably a good thing :) but I have been lucky enough to join this wonderful group of friends.  We went to Monte Carlo in the North Loop neighborhood for dinner- delish!  I love this restaurant- a really fun place, great location, and very tasty food!  After dinner, we ladies went to a fabulous bar right around the corner with the nicest bar tenders ever!

The ladies from an old picture at Erica's bachelorette!
Erica, myself, Bonnie, Liz, and Lauren in front.
Again I need to remember to take pictures more often!

Then on Saturday Ryan and I ran to the gym and I had a training session with Danielle.  I should introduce this wonderful lady to you as she and I have become good friends over the last year.  Ryan and I joined AnyTime Fitness in Mound- best gym ever!- and I decided to try one of those free personal training sessions.  I called Danielle and ever since March 2011, I've been hooked to her workouts.  She's been a really good motivator and teacher for me.  It's been really fun to get in shape again- still some work to go but I've got some good goals going right now- and it's been even more fun to make new friends in Mound.  We were sad that Danielle and her husband Mike moved out of our neighborhood a few weeks ago but we hope they can buy a house back in the neighborhood soon!

Okay moving on- so then I had to figure out what to do with myself and Ryan for a few hours until Ryan's SURPRISE party!  We didn't do much of anything but the anticipation just about killed me!  I've been planning this party since the end of April.  I give Ryan such a hard time about being 30 in one year so I thought it would be perfect to throw him a 29th surprise party and hope he never would suspect it!  I wasn't sure if it would still be a secret or if Ryan knew but I was dying to know and couldn't wait to see all of our friends and family who were waiting for us on the party boat!

LOVE YOU HUSBAND!  HAPPY 29th!

From the boat we went to dinner at Maynard's but didn't stay long as it was so hot out!  We ended the night at William's in uptown playing pool and darts and drinking cold beer!

And on Sunday we were slow to get going but eventually went kayaking on Lake Minnetonka in the morning.  Then later in the afternoon we went and saw our old high school diving coach, Mike sing at TGIFridays with our friends Dustin and Liz.  Dustin and Liz are the ones we are going to Europe with later this year!  We are all beyond excited about that trip.
Mike and his band playing at TGIFridays in St. Louis Park!

The girls and the boys... Europe will be interesting!
The Squires... aren't they adorable!

The Hannays!

And we finished the night at Spill the Wine- I love this restaurant!
We enjoyed steak and halibut, tasty wines, and an over the top cookie/ice cream sandwich!

Until next time...
...cheers!

Weekend Shenanigans

First and foremost- I am realizing that if I am going to really do this blogging endeavor I have to take more pictures.  This may be a pictureless post - therefore less entertaining and I'll keep it short.

On Friday after a long day at work Ryan and I went to Spasso for dinner.  The walleye dinner I had was fabulous and Ryan had a delicious mahi-mahi.  Unfortunately the air conditioning was not working in the place so we sweat through dinner and didn't have any wine- just MANY glasses of water.  After dinner I picked up one of my best friends, Allison Rainwater from the airport.  Allison was in town this weekend from Arizona for her sister's wedding.  Allison just had a baby 3 weeks ago so I give her major props for making the trip and the few pictures I've seen so far from the wedding- she looked absolutely stunning!  Not that I'm surprised at all but what a trip for a newbie mom!  Anyways- the 30 minute drive from the airport to her parent's house was so nice to catch up on her new life and see a few pics of her new son Austin!

Allison and I the last time she was in town- before she was a MOM!

Saturday was busy getting ready for a couples shower that my mom and I hosted on Sunday... will tell you more in a minute!  And then Ryan and I joined some family and friends to celebrate our dear friend Deb's birthday with a backyard BBQ.  Deb, our friend and co-worker passed away this last March after a long battle with cancer.  It was so fun to see her family and share stories about our sweet friend!  We so miss her and wish she was still here!  But we enjoyed the delicious food, good wine, and fun memories.

And then on Sunday, my mom and I hosted a couples shower for my dear friend Kathryn and her fiance Mike.  Kathryn and I have been friends since we were about 9 years old from diving.  We celebrated their upcoming wedding with all of our diving families and enjoyed a taco and fajita bar along with marble and fudge cake!  Yummy!  It was so fun to catch up with all these old friends.  It's incredibly special to me that this group of friends has stayed together for nearly 15 years now- yikes that seems like a long time!  We all went to different high schools and colleges, have ended up in completely different states for most of the recent years, and pursued completely different fields of study/occupation.  And yet we can come together and truly enjoy an afternoon.  These are wonderful friends.. the kind that you catch up right where you left off!
One of my favorite pictures of Kathryn and I...
from the summer (2009) I went to visit her in LA!

I will share two fun pictures from the shower- the most adorable cake and the fun pinterest project I did for the Nearlyweds!
A cake just for divers :)

The important dates of their lives

Have a great Monday everyone!
And we'll catch up a little later this week I'm sure!
