Dear Friday...

Dear Friday,
I'm really glad you are here and we can finally start the weekend together!  It has been a really exciting week as we publicly announced Baby Hannay and his/her arrival this fall.  I felt overwhelmed- yes I cried at work- with all the love and sweet messages from everyone.  It was heartmelting!

I'm looking forward to dinner tonight with Reed and Annie.  And celebrating Dustin's 30th birthday tomorrow!  And Sunday's Easter celebration will top off a great weekend.  Time with family and lots of good eats all to celebration Jesus!

If you could stay sunny and warm this weekend I would really appreciate it.  If I could not have morning sickness this weekend too- I'd love that.  And if Husband could not work 8-10 hours on Saturday and have some relaxation time I would forever be grateful.

Cheers,

Telling Our Families the News

So like I said before Ryan and I wanted to announce to our families.  Originally the plan was to wait until Valentine's day but that was two weeks away and I knew I couldn't last that long.  I commend people who go weeks or even months before announcing.  Here is the flip side of that.  My thought on waiting to announce was this... I completely understand why people want to wait.  You wait to make sure you are in the clear, out of the woods, and in the safe zone.  You wait to make sure you don't miscarry.  I so understand that!  However for me, I knew that if something did happen to our baby I would want to lean on my friends and family for support and love so they might as well share in our joy now!  And I guess if something happened, first of all it would be God's plan and my family and friends are the best so I would call on them for support.

So anyways, we started telling family a few days after our initial surprise!  Ryan went ice fishing with his dad the weekend we found out.  The original plan was not to tell our news but to wait until I could have onesies made for our parents.  But I got a text from Ryan on Saturday morning that he was alone in the ice house with his dad and it was killing him not to tell his dad the news.  So I called Ryan and he put me on speaker phone.  We announced the news to Bill that he would be a Grandpa!  Papa Hannay!  He was so happy for us and excited!  I was glad Ryan could have that moment with his dad and that Bill could be one of the first to know.
A picture from the cabin/ice fishing weekend...
The following week, I wanted to tell my family before we went to AZ for our trip.  So I slipped the secret to my sister a few days early so she could help me orchestrate the surprise.  We did an 'impromptu dinner' at her house on that Thursday evening.  Like I've shared my parents just moved to a house in the country so I figured I could get away with having a 'housewarming gift' to surprise them with the news.  We got to my sister's house early so we could have my niece and nephew help with the gift giving.  Jaxon wrote a housewarming card and the plan was for the grandkids to give my parents this gift.  Once everyone got to my sister's house, everyone sat in the family room.  Jaxon gave my mom the gift box.  My mom read the card and thought she was getting a housewarming gift from her three grandkids- Jaxon, Laura, and Rose.  She opened the box and pulled out the onesie I had made.  On the front it said "Grandpa and Grandma's Country Bumpkin"  My mom's response- oh how cute!  it's adorable!  She turned the onesie over and read "Ready to be loved in October" and then it all made sense to her.  She put the onesie down and said "Where's Kari?"  I was sitting across the room from her and she jumped up and I said "We're having a baby!"  Everyone squealed with excitement and hugs went all around.  Probably the most special part of that was that my dad had to sit back in his chair and fight the tears from coming.  I was so happy to share the moment with my whole family- Grandpa and Grandma, my parents, my brother's whole family, my sister and niece, and Ryan.
So after announcing to my family, we left for Arizona.  The following week, Ryan's mom and stepdad were out of town in AZ for a work convention.  We didn't want to tell them over the phone so we waited for them to get home.  They were back to work on Tuesday so after a working meeting in the morning, our plan was since everyone would be in the office that afternoon we would announce then!  When Dawn finally got in the office and ate her LENGTHY lunch (I was dying at this point!) she finally made her way to her desk.  Ryan sent out an 'out of office' notice for October 8th stating that we would be at Labor and Delivery for their new grandbaby.  Ross of course got the email first and came down to our office and said congratulations!  He knew Dawn would take longer to get to her emails so he tried to hurry her along.  He went to her office and said did you see the email from Ryan?  She was annoyed that Ross was rushing her to her emails.  She said she would get to her emails once she went to the bathroom.  SERIOUSLY?  I'm just about dead at this point.  After a potty break and getting settled back into her office, she found the email notification of our 'out of office.'  She came running down to our office and was surprised and shocked as to how we just announced to her!  We laughed and hugged!  We had to recount the story of how we found out, how long we had been holding on to our secret, and how Dawn and Ross likely will not be traveling to Italy for the month of October this year!  Sorry guys but at least you'll have your grandbaby!  It's Dawn's 50th this year so I think a grandbaby is a perfect present!
     Cheers,

How We Found Out

Baby Hannay was planned and yes we were trying.  Our trip to Europe was the kick off to starting to try!  I have to admit that I thought we would get pregnant right away so I was a little surprised each month when we weren't pregnant.  Oh well- more trying!  :)

If this is all too much information you can certainly not read this but I assume since you are at my blog you want all the little details.  So here it goes-- so on Wednesday January 30th I was supposed to get my period.  My body is like clock work so when I didn't have my dear friend's visit in the morning I was a little excited and thought maybe this was our month!  Throughout the day I kept running to the bathroom hoping I still didn't have my period.  Wednesday night Ryan and I went to the Wild game with Dawn and Ross and I knew I couldn't get away without drinking and make it obvious so I ordered a glass of wine at the hotel before the game.  Ryan looked at me funny across the table and suspected that maybe I got my period.  I sort of gave him a silly look and he was confused.  When we got up from the table he said "Well..." and I just shrugged.  I told him so far we were in the clear but I didn't want to make anything too obvious to his parents so I figured one last glass of wine couldn't hurt!
A glass of wine before the game...   And trying to watch hockey when all I could think about was...
After the hockey game when I got home, Ryan figured I would take a test right away.  I couldn't.  I didn't want to because I was afraid it would say negative and I would be bummed.  So as long as I didn't take a test there was still a chance I could be preggers.  Unfortunately that was a bad idea because I couldn't sleep all night.  I was so excited for the possibility to be preggers my mind and thoughts were running all night!  My biggest thought was if I am pregnant how am I going to tell Ryan?!  I always envisioned doing something cute and having a fun surprise for him.  Well just keep listening...

So at 6am on Thursday morning when Dupree woke up Ryan to go outside I booked it to the bathroom to take a test.  It INSTANTLY came up positive.  The two lines were so obvious- there was no question.  I quickly snapped a picture on my phone, threw the test back under my sink, and hopped back in bed like nothing happened.  When Ryan and Dupree got back to bed, Ryan asked how I slept.  He always asks me this every morning.  So I said "not great."  He replied with "it's because you're thinking about babies."  Please note at this point we are both back in bed, laying in the pitch dark and Ryan has no idea I just took a test.  I said "Ryan I have to tell you something.  I'm pregnant."  So much for doing a cute surprise to announce to my husband!  He said "what?"  I said "I'm pregnant."  He asked how I knew and I told him I just took a test.  I showed him the picture on my phone of the positive test that I just took.  And his response "that's an internet picture."  So I jumped out of bed, turned on all the lights in our bedroom, grabbed the test and showed him the positive result.  And said "Seriously.  We're pregnant!"  He was of course thrilled!
The picture Ryan thought I took from the internet :)
What I adore about my husband is how much he thinks like me.  His first thought was 'how are we going to announce to everyone?'  That's another story for how we told all of our families!  But it was so fun to have this little secret between us!  Our secret didn't last long as I'm an open book.  This is the hardest secret to hold in especially when you are so close to family like we are- we work with family for the love of God!  It was hard.  But we kept the secret for a few days!

A few pictures we took that night after I got home from coaching...

Weekend Shenanigans: Girlfriends are the best!

Friday started with getting a manicure with Annie.  Love spending time with Friend and catching up.  And I got my gel pink manicure which should look great for Easter!  Ryan and I were sort of lazy on Friday night however we did get to the gym at 8:30pm for a quick workout. Yep- I was pretty proud of us for doing that on Friday night!

Saturday was a busy day around the house.  Ryan prepped the basement to start working on what will one day be the theater room.  I was buys cleaning closets and sifting thru stuff from my parents old house.  I can't believe how much stuff I had accumulated thru the years!  Wow!  We got another workout at the gym in and then we got ready to head out for the night.

We headed to uptown to my friend Ally and Tracy's house for dinner.  It was such a fun night as Sydney was home from Chicago and we got to meet Ally's new boyfriend Treston and Mallarie's not so new, but new to me boyfriend, Bryan.  We made tacos and drank Caronas!  Lots and lots of laughing and I've decided both Treston and Bryan are keepers!!

Sunday Ryan's dad came over to help work on the basement.  We are slowly going to start finishing the basement, starting with the theater room.  They framed in the wall and installed the pocket door.  A few more weekends of basement work and hopefully we'll have a theater/gaming room for Ryan!

Hope you had a good weekend and got to relax!
Cheers,

Top Ten Tuesday: Why I Can't Wait for Spring!

#10 No More Snow
I cannot wait till there is now more snow.  I should be more Minnesotan and enjoy it but I've never been into skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling etc.  I'm more of a swimming in the lake lady!  I don't enjoy playing in it and I HATE driving in it.  This is the view out of my office window today... and I can't wait till that giant mound of snow is gone!

#9 No More Winter Coats
I hate wearing a coat.  It's bulky and cumbersome.  I get hot in the car and I'm still cold outside.  And my closet is busting at the seams over all the coats!

#8 No More Salt Stains
Just this morning I cleaned salt stains off of the heels I wore yesterday.  I've completely ruined a pair of boots too this year.  I'm over it!

#7 Spring Cleaning
I LOVE spring cleaning!  I love going thru the garage and all the closets in the house and cleaning out the junk.  Some how is accumulates during the winter and I can't wait to get rid of some junk!  And I love the deep clean we do on the house after the dirt, sand, and salt is gone!

#6 Landscaping and Gardening
I love planting flowers- not too many- but do love potting flowers on our front porch area.  I also secretly love pulling weeds in the landscape beds and just simply being outside and active.

#5 Sandals
I do love boot season but I'm over it now.  I'm ready for cute, strappy sandals!

#4 Grilling outside
I LOVE grilling outside on the grill.  Or should I say I LOVE when Ryan cooks dinner on the grill!  Yummy! It's my favorite because 1. the mess inside the kitchen is minimal 2. the food is delish and 3. my husband is working the grill- what could be hotter?!

#3 Walking Outside
I love taking walks around the neighborhood or into town.  It's such a good workout for Dupree and it's time for Ryan and I to unwind and get some time together away from work.  I just like time in the fresh air, getting some exercise!

#2 It's sunny longer
Okay so we are already getting longer days and I'm loving it!  But I love in the late spring when it's almost 9pm and it's still light out!  And I must admit I like that the sun is up earlier too- it makes going to the gym in the morning much more doable.

#1 It Means Summer is Just Around the Corner
I LOVE June July and August!  Perhaps it's the kid in me that thinks about summer vacation but whatever the reason, I love the summer months!  I love the humidity, the full weekends, the impromptu boat days, dinner outside, and yes- my birthday!!

Cheers,

Workout Wednesdays

So let's talk about something I love to do but don't get to do it often enough.  Working out.  Almost exactly two years ago I made a call to one of the personal trainers at our gym- Danielle.  I was super nervous to call because I had seen Danielle at the gym before and I was intimidated.  But I called and signed up for my one free session.  I figured if I hated it, I would never have to go back.  Well two years later and I'm still going back for more!

I signed up for a handful of sessions and every time my sessions ran out, Ryan would buy me more sessions.  Working out with Danielle kept me accountable and kept me motivated to workout during the week.  What I didn't expect to gain from my training was so much nutritional information!  Danielle had a wealth of knowledge.  I will never forget our first session and I told Danielle I loved make s'mores in the microwave.  She quickly told me how bad they are for me.  She didn't make me feel bad about it she was just very matter of fact about what was in the s'more.  Needless to say I haven't had a s'more since.

The reason I'm sharing this story isn't to tell you to go get a personal trainer and not to tell you how bad s'mores are for you.  But to tell you how happy I am that I've been training for two years now.  This last summer I kicked it into high gear to lose some weight before our trip to Europe.  I wanted to be 130 lbs so I  put my rear in gear and by the time we left for Europe I was 131!!  A month after returning I got down to 129!!  Again, I'm thrilled with my results but I'm even happier that the training and the food habits I created are part of my life now.  And no I don't workout every day and I still enjoy a cookie or bowl of ice cream.  But I do think about what I put into my body.  It's not a garbage disposal so I shouldn't out garbage in!

Moral of the story- push yourself, take yourself out of your comfort zone, and be the best you that you can!  You won't regret it and you'll likely surprise yourself!
Cheers,

Weekend Shenanigans: Grandpa's 91st Birthday

A relatively quiet weekend but I wanted to chat about my Grandpa's birthday.  Grandpa turned 91 on Saturday.  My dear sweet Grandma had put together a birthday party for Grandpa at their new home.  She booked the party room and went all out.  She had put all the tables together to create a long dining table complete with her hand-stitched tablecloth and flower centerpieces.  Adorable.
My grandparents love when my sister-in-law plays her violin.  So Stephanie was so sweet to play a few old time songs for Grandpa's birthday.  During the first song, Grandpa asked Grandma to dance (insert 'awwww!').  My mom and I were all teary eyed.  It was so sweet and their love is something we all feel so blessed to know.
Grandma made lasagna for the whole family for lunch.  Of course it was so good!  Grandpa opened presents- lots of gift cards to his new favorite local restaurant.  We finished with singing Happy Birthday and eating cake!
A little throw back circa 1992ish.  I do adore my grandpa!  I feel so lucky to celebrate #91 with him!
Hope you created fun memories this weekend too!

Thursday Thoughts...

I've been on the fly lately but I'm going to try and do a quick blog for you!

Where I'd like to be now, instead of MN...
Costa Rica!  Best vacation ever!  Possibly because it was our honeymoon but who wouldn't want a second honeymoon?  Babe- wanna go?!

What I wish I could still do...
Dive!  Flexibility is out the door these days- at least in comparison to what it used to be!  I miss being on the board and having the rush!!  I guess I'll settle for coaching...

People I miss..
my college friends!  One of the big down sides of going to college in a different state is when you move back home, you miss them!

And that's all I've got today!  Random?  Yes!  But true :)
Cheers,

Weekend Shenanigans: Kind of Quiet

Our weekend wasn't much to brag about.  Friday I had early happy hour with Ally at Champps and Ryan had early happy hour with Tim at the dive bar in Maple Plain.  After Champps I went to my grandparents house to see them for a little bit.  I absolutely love that they live close by and I can see them anytime.  Ryan and I then met up at my brother's house for a hang out with my siblings.

Saturday was a morning workout at the gym and then Ryan spent the evening with his friends.  They played video games and did boys things :)  I went to my niece's dance competition where they won!!  Oh my goodness was it exciting and I was so happy for her!  She did such a good job and she has come so far!!  After the competition, my sister, my mom, and my niece and I went to Olive Garden for dinner!  Yummo!

Sunday was church and then I went to get my nails done and for brunch with the in-laws and crew.  Ryan decided to stay home and just get some odds and ends projects done around the home.  When I got home, we napped and then did a quick workout at the gym.  Home for dinner and relaxing on the couch.

It was a nice weekend to be home, get things done, but to relax!
Cheers,
