Weekend Shenanigans: Movies, House Projects, and a Bday Celebration

We started off the weekend with a movie date with the Squires!  On Friday, we brought Chipotle over to their house, popped some wine from the St. Emilion region!, and watched the Lion King!
Liz texted me earlier in the week letting us know that the movie was secured as we all realized the only copy we had was a VHS and who has a VHS player anymore?!  You might be wondering why the 4 of us really wanted to watch the Lion King- well while in Europe someone brought up a movie line from it and ever since, we sang the songs, quoted lines, and laughed that we just HAD to watch this when we got home!  So we did!
We popped open two bottles of wine and enjoyed!  Just after 10:30- Liz and I both passed out on the couch and so we gave in and just went home and to bed- an early Friday night really!

On Saturday Ryan was up and at 'em early at 6:30 to start working- running all over town... Edina, Woodbury, Minneapolis, Edina and finally home!  A realtor works 7 days a week practically!  Luckily we love what we do!  I sat at an open house for a house we have for sale/listed- my sister's!- as Ryan could not be there.  So I did a little work from there for a little while.

When I got home- I watched Elf as I was in the Christmas mood and wanted a relaxing afternoon.
And my movie date since Ryan wasn't home yet...

When Ryan got home- he snoozed for a bit and then we worked on putting together our new dining room buffet!  My sweet husband surprised me and bought this buffet for me for our anniversary- coming up!  We had said no gifts as we have hopes to build a porch at some point and we need to save up for that- but he did a little surprise and I love it!!  This project started on Saturday and we got it all put together on Sunday.  It was like an IKEA project- lots of screws, pegs, and boards- an drawing instructions!

And the finished project...
I LOVE it!  We moved all of Ryan's great grand-mother's fine china into the hutch and all of our nice serving trays too!  It looks awesome and totally completes the room!

Saturday night we went to my brother's house for my sister-in-law's 40th birthday!  Happy Birthday Stephanie!  The worst part of this- I forgot to take even 1 picture!  Major blogging fail!
It was a really fun party- all of our family and friends, with Stephanie's co-workers too were over at their house enjoying Famous Daves and then a delicious Lund's cake!  Really a fun party and the perfect way to celebrate Stephanie!

Sunday- Ryan and I both had brunch dates at Crave with separate friends.  We didn't talk or plan it but when discussing on Saturday night when we each had brunch plans we found out we were both meeting at Crave in SLP at 10:30am.  Haha- married couples do think alike?!!  I had brunch with Tracy- loved catching up!  And Ryan had brunch with Angie- talking real estate and a possible career for her in this industry!

We ran around town together afterwards- doing errands and getting a new phone for Ryan.  We finished the day doing a little house organizing (the back hallway shoes were a disaster!) and Ryan switched some of our lights onto dimmers- I HATE bright lights and love soft lighting!

We ran to the gym and then off to bed!  A nice weekend but very much looking forward to a relaxing Thanksgiving coming up!

Our European Trip: Croatia, day 3

On our final day in Croatia we had signed up to go deep sea fishing!  We were all pretty excited for this adventure and had no idea what we were doing!  We were picked up and brought to the dock where we met our guides, Stiepo and Mislov.
Meet Stiepo- the real fishing guide- well sort of and that is correct, he didn't wear pants all day- just his polo shirt and speedo!
And meet Mislov- the restaurant owner who was really just enjoying the day with new friends, lots of wine, and being on the boat, "fishing!"  We also decided this guy could be Liz's dad's brother for sure!
So we got on the boat and set sail for the Adriatic Sea!  It was a GORGEOUS day and we were happy to be on the water and headed out to fish!

So we started by throwing out these long lines of hooks and squid which was tied at both ends to plastic bottles.  This was not what I would classify as fishing but I would come to learn it was the most productive fishing we would do all day!

I believe we dropped two of these lines and then parked the boat in the middle of the ocean to start real fishing!

After a very unsuccessful attempt at fishing, Mislov and Stiepo thought lunch might help!  Like I said, Mislov owns his own restaurant and he had fresh baked bread, fresh cheese, and delicious meats to make our own sandwiches!  SOOO good!
And paired with all of this... we were set for a great day even if we didn't catch anything!
The guys all jumped in to cool off...
And then we were off to pull up the catch.  Stiepo and Mislov had set one of the lines before we met them for the day so we really had 3 long lines of hooks and squid floating in the ocean.  Needless to say, everything we caught was really only good for soup-- which means we caught small fish that weren't worth much.  However, we did catch a snake and string ray!

We put our lines back down again when we came across quite a few boats all in one area.  Stiepo was anxious to actually fish and catch something while Mislov was excited to jump in the water and swim around!  I can't imagine that was productive for catching/attracting more fish!
At the end of the night we went fishing for squid.  Apparently it is early in the season for this so it wasn't very likely that we would catch anything but Ryan did!  He caught a squid within the first minute!  And then we didn't catch any more :(

A few more pictures from the day...

When we finally made it back to shore- in the dark- we toasted to a wonderful day of new friends and great memories made!  We proceeded to Mislov's restaurant where we FEASTED on dinner and dessert, some more wine too!  Under the table was Mislov's dog, Minnie!

We were picked up and brought back to Villa Matilda where we all quickly went to bed and slept like babies!  What a fun, full day!

Up next on our European trip- ITALY!
