Our Mother's Day... and the Gender Reveal

What a beautiful day we had to celebrate Mother's Day!  I felt blessed to start the day by walking Dupree into town and getting a mango iced tea at Caribou.  It was so quiet and no one was on the trail except me, Dupree, the birds and the squirrels.  It was wonderful!  As soon as I got home, I jumped into the hustle of getting the last few things ready for the Mother's Day party we hosted.  Ryan finished the last few touch ups on the nursery and got the garage cleaned out.  We made sloppy joes and wrapped gifts.  We were ready for our company to come over around noon..
My whole family and most of Ryan's family joined us for lunch.  After a tasty lunch full of sloppy joes, potato salad, beans, pasta salad, jello salad, pear salad, and fruit salad... enough salads right?!... we opened gifts.  It looked like Christmas around here.  I felt really, really blessed to be showered with lots of love.  Lots of cards of encouraging words and beautiful first time mama gifts.  Ryan gave me what can only be described as  a pregnant woman's dream- manicure/pedicure gift certificate for the rest of my pregnancy!  And then this beautiful figurine.
I have a few of these throughout the house and I absolutely love this one.  So thoughtful and I will treasure this as my first Mother's Day gift from Ryan and baby Hannay.  Are you dying yet to know if Baby Hannay is a boy or a girl?!!

Okay!  Okay!  So I did a mini gender reveal and had our family vote on if they thought Baby Hannay would be a boy or a girl.  My friend Kristin helped me get voting ballots, stickers, and signs to complete the party!

So after gifts were opened, we had Ryan's mom and my mom cut into a secret cake!
.
And they yelled... "It's blue!"
Yes!  We're having a BOY!
Ryan and I are over the moon thrilled to be having a baby boy!  It feels surreal to say that I will have a son in a few months!  We do have a name picked out but I'm going to hold onto that until baby's birthday!

A few more pictures of the day...
The Nelson's all voted GIRL!
Grandma Robyn and Nona Pescada... baby boy will be spoiled like crazy by these two!
Grandpa and Grandma... both voted BOY!

Laura knew it... hope my sister is ready to nanny her nephew!
Dick and Judy were on the right track...
Grandma was pretty happy!  She said "I win!"
Of course my brother had to do his own vote... this way he wouldn't be wrong... so typical :)
And Stephanie and her dad were both team GIRL... maybe next time...
All the grandpas... our baby boy is really lucky to have these three!
Jaxon is really excited to finally have another boy in the family!  Yay a boy cousin!
"We're Hannays!  We only make boys!"
And when it was all said and done and the last of the guests left, Rose tuckered out on the couch.  A lot of excitement to celebrate.  What a beautiful day celebrating all the moms, moms to be, god moms, aunts, mother in laws, sisters, and women who are the glue in our family!  I can't wait for our son to join in family celebrations later this year!  He's gonna love it!

Out-numbered by one husband, one fur man puppy, and a baby BOY on the way... and THRILLED!

We have a secret!

Yesterday we had our ultrasound to check up on Baby Hannay!  It was a long appointment- especially since I had to go with a full bladder.  But I made it!  And baby is healthy and growing perfectly!  We are blessed!

We did find out the gender and we are so excited to announce on Mother's Day!  This is a hard secret to keep but I promised Ryan I would keep my lips zipped!
So until Monday... have a great weekend and happy Mother's Day to all the moms, mamas-to-be, grandmas, aunts, and God mother's!

Keeping our secret sealed,

18 Weeks

Pumpkin this week...
~ Baby is yawning, hiccuping, sucking, and swallowing (anyone else amazed by this?!)
~ Twisting, rolling, punching, and kicking

Size of the Baby?
5.6 inches long and weights about 6.7 ounces.
Our little sweet potato!
Total Weight Gain/Loss?
+1 lb. this week.  Currently up 10 lbs from pre-pregnancy weight.  Happy about this!

Maternity Clothes?
I bought some maxi skirts and dresses and now that it's finally warm enough out I am so excited to wear these!  And yep- I'm sporting one of the new ones in this week's bump picture!

Stretch Marks?
None.

Best Moments?
Feeling some flutters and pops!  The first one felt like a little hand slip across my whole tummy under my belly button.  So weird but SO wonderful!

Movement?
A few flutters and pops (like popcorn).  They aren't super big or frequent but I know something is starting to stir and it's not gas!

Nausea/Vomitting?
Same here.  I think I lost it about 5 of 7 days this last week.  It's okay- I'm happily puking :)

Labor Signs?
No

Gender?
TODAY we find out!!!  We are SOOO anxious!
Belly Button In or Out?
In!

Wedding Rings On or Off?
On!

Sleep?
It's okay.  Still the same potty break every night and I usually wake up on my back but quickly jump onto my side and fall back asleep.

Wisdom?
I feel like we've had funny intervals between appointments.  I had an 8 week appointment, a 13 week and now an 18.5 week so I feel like we haven't seen our doctor as often as my nerves might like.  Ryan keeps reminding me everything is just fine and to trust my body.  And there is definite truth to this.  Our fetal doppler shows a strong heart beat that we can hear too but I'm a worrier by nature.  So I'm trusting God with our baby and I just have to push my nerves away.  But I would suggest maybe being a little more regular with OB appointments than we have.  It's just sort of been the way the calendar has worked out for us.

What am I most excited about?
Ummm... today's appointment!  And Mother's Day and our mini gender reveal!  YAY!

Excited,

Baby Talk: Predictions!

Chinese Gender Chart
This ancient method uses your age at conception and the month you did the deed to determine the gender.  Try it here!
Results: BOY!

Heartbeat
Next time your OB pulls out the Doppler to listen to the baby's heartbeat, ask her to tell you what the heart rate is.  According to legend, 140+ beats per minute indicates a girl, and below 140 a boy.
Results: GIRL!

Skin
If you're breaking out like crazy, blame it on your girl babe.  The belief goes that girls steal their mother's beauty, hence those annoying zits.
Results: ???? (hard to tell)
I've always had good skin so yes, I've had more zits since pregnancy but I can't say I'm breaking out either!
Maybe on technicality we could say GIRL!

Cravings
If you're craving sweets, it's a girl's sweet tooth.  If you're craving salty or sour, it's your boy.
Results: GIRL!

Morning Sickness
Sick as a dog during the first trimester-- or still?  Signs indicate you've having a girl.  Little or no morning sickness points to a boy.
Results: GIRL!

The Mayans
Legend has it that the Mayans determined a baby's sex by looking at the mother's age at conception and the year of conception.  If both are even or odd, its'a girl.  If one's even and one's odd, it's a boy.
Results: BOY!

Anxiously waiting for Thursday,
And today, I've linked up with Kristin today for Baby Talk!

17 Weeks

Finally no snow!  YAY!!  Spring finally made its appearance in MN this week!

Pumpkin this week...
~ Baby's rubbery cartilage is turning into bone
~ Putting on some fat
~ The umbilical cord is getting stronger and thicker

Size of the Baby?
5.1 inches long and weights about 5.9 ounces.  It's quite the growth from 3.5 ounces last week!
Total Weight Gain/Loss?
I am up 9 lbs now.  That's 2 lbs. this week.  Still wrapping my head around gaining weight.

Maternity Clothes?
Same story here... however I went to Anthropologie to get a few nursery items (insert big smile here) and decided to check out the sale rack.  And I found the cutest dress ever!  It's of course not maternity but it will be so cute as my bump grows.  And I bought another non-maternity dress from Venus online.  It has a fun pleated skirt on it so it can hide the bump for a little while.  Depending on the weather on Mother's Day- one of these dresses will be worn!  And I finally broke down and got some maternity jeans.  I'm in love!  I may just wear these even after baby is born!

Stretch Marks?
So far none- hooray!

Best Moments?
The relaxing weekend with Ryan- we did a lot of talking about our pumpkin.  We did some nursery work and some registering too.  We are still in awe of this miracle and blessing.  And can't believe we are getting close to the halfway point!

Movement?
I keep waiting for a flutter but nothing yet.

Nausea/Vomitting?
About the same.  Still have a few bad mornings but I swear it's because God knows I'm a worrier and if I'm not sick, I might worry about Baby H!

Labor Signs?
Negative!

Gender?
1 more week!  I am counting the days, hours, and minutes!  Eek!
We find out at our ultrasound next Thursday.  Then we will share the news with family on Mother's Day and then all of you lovely people!
Belly Button In or Out?
In!

Wedding Rings On or Off?
On!

Sleep?
Sleep is okay- I usually wake up, have to go to the bathroom but can get back to sleep.  I have come to realize I love sleeping on my back and this is going to be hard to change- but I always fall asleep on my side. I just wake up on my back.

Wisdom?
Everyone and their mother is going to have an opinion about you having a baby.  And people seem to think it is totally their place to tell you how to do pregnancy, parenting... all of it!  I'm always shocked when people, even complete strangers start telling me how to give birth, how to breastfeed, what to do for nutrition and exercise, what to do for child care etc.  Take the advice with a grain of salt and smile.  Ryan and I take it in stride and discuss different things.  We just have to do whatever we think is right for us and our baby.

What am I most excited about?
Finding out if Baby Hannay is a boy or a girl!  Ryan is still leaning towards boy and I lean towards girl.  Might be wishful thinking on each of our parts but either way, we'll be so excited!  And then let the shopping begin!!

Sitting on pins and needles,

Wait! What?! It's May 1st!

How can it already be May 1st?!  This is crazy!  This last weekend was so refreshing to enjoy some warm weather and be outside without mittens, coats, and boots!  I feel like May is when I feel the start of summer looming and before I know it we are into September.  I'm looking forward to:
Mother's Day at Our House and the Gender Reveal!
Memorial Day in North Carolina with two of my favorite girls!
A weekend trip with Ryan... our babymoon!
4th of July, my favorite holiday!
The cabin weekend!
Birthdays!
Kuntz's, Charlotte's and Angie's Weddings!
And then Baby Hannay's arrival!
I can see how fast this is all going to happen... yikes!
Well here we go and I'm so ready!
